Parents to guarantor

Noel Whittaker | July 30 2008 | The Sydney Morning Herald & The Age (subscribe)

Can my parents guarantor my property without sacrificing their weekly pension?

Q.

I'm looking at a defence housing investment property but I fear I will not meet the loan criteria unless my parents are listed as guarantors. How can I do this without sacrificing their weekly pension? They have owned their home for 30 years.

A.

Your parents should not lose any of their pension if they go guarantor for you but they should talk to the FIS people at Centrelink to confirm this. This is a free service.
