Investing in Bank Bills

Noel Whittaker | August 13 2008 | The Sydney Morning Herald & The Age (subscribe)

Is it better to invest in bank bills rather than the share market?

Q.

We have some extra cash and we were told to buy a bank bill for a good quick return rather than investing in a volatile market. Are there any other ways to lend money that will return a better yield other than bank bills?

A.

Bank bills or term deposits are low risk - if you chase higher returns by choosing some of the products heavily advertised in the papers you have a much greater chance of losing your capital. Of course for the long term growth investments are still the best option.
